Air bubbles in fuel filter
Air bubbles in fuel filter
Bonjour,
Hello to all 403 lovers!
Finally my car got its MOT and I can drive it.
Unfortunately there are few issues that bothers me.
After some KM driving the engine reach its working temperature and then suddenly the engine stop respond to gas pedal and the car stops.
When I look at the fuel filter, its empty.
If I purge water on the fuel pump to cool it down, its stats working again.
I suspect that the fuel pump overheat and fuel vaporize (become gas). Do you think this is the problem?
Another issue I think is maybe the fuel tank is not breathing meaning a vacuum is created and the pump draws air from some point.
Do you know how the fuel tank breath? Should the fuel filling door (left rear tail light) completely seals the fuel hose?
Merci.

Re: Air bubbles in fuel filter
Bonjour,
Merci

Re: Air bubbles in fuel filter
If the gas pipe is too near the engine it is possible the heather of the engine make the fuel become gas (vapor)
Try to place the rubber pipe far from the engine (motor)

Bonjour,
Thank you for your answers.
Opening the fuel tank lid did not help. Still have bubbles in the fuel filter.
Also, I touched the fuel pump and the pipes entering and leaving the fuel pump. All was cool. I don't think fuel vaporized.
Any other idea how to check fuel system?
Merci.

Bonjour,
I would like to mention that the fuel filter in my 403 is connected between the fuel pump and carburateur.
I also put new old stock PBICA 34 carburateur (of 404).
Merci.

Re: Air bubbles in fuel filter
The filter must be placed before gasoline fuel pump.
Warning : fuel filter arises in the right direction.
There is an arrow on it to indicate the direction of flow of gasoline.

Can you tell why?

Re: Air bubbles in fuel filter
In this way, the fuel pump is protecting potential dross in gasoline.
Install 2 fuel filters is useless and causes a slight loss.
For your problem: check all hoses (from the tank) to ensure they are in good condition.
There is a small piece of pipe to the tank outlet.

Re: Air bubbles in fuel filter
Bonjour,
I have replaced the rubber hose and problem solved!!
But I noticed high pressure in the hose between pump and carb. Is this normal?
Merci.

Bonjour,
When I open fuel pump rubber hose on carburetor side some fuel and air were splashing out of the hose with some pressure.
When I open fuel pump rubber hose on fuel tank side, fuel leaked but with no pressure.
Merci.
